INTRODUCING YOUR 4/5 TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More!

Dear Families,

Greetings from Walls Elementary! We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer together! It’s nearly time to jump back into the swing of things, so we wanted to write you with a few updates. This year, our Walls 4th and 5th grade students will once again be part of a “Departmentalized Looping Team”.  This approach to learning was previously piloted in the district and our classrooms in the 2016-17 school year and has countless benefits for students and teachers, including but not limited to:

  • Students will have the same teachers for two years of their education. We get to know your kids and their strengths/needs VERY well!
  • Students are taught based on their current level of understanding/learning style.  Education should not be “one size fits all”!
  • Learning is based on problem solving and inquiry.
  • Teachers are able to collaborate about students daily.
  • Teachers are able to focus on two subject areas instead of five or six. This sets the stage for deeper learning!

Below is our model for the 2017-2018 school year:

Reading/Language Arts: Students will remain with their homeroom teacher/grade level team for reading and language arts instruction. (Our gifted specialist, Mr. Hawks, will be teaming with us for this subject as well.)

Math: Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Lockhart will be teaming  grades 4 & 5 math.

Science: Mrs. Lowden and Mrs. Yehle will be teaming grades 4 & 5 science.

Social Studies: Mrs. Elia and Ms. Foster will be teaming grades 4 & 5 social studies.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year!
